So Breaking Bands Festival is now officially less than 16 weeks away. That doesn’t sound very far away at all now does it?
So, the organisers felt it was a good time to give a recap of everything we have in store this year, though holding back a few extra bits until the main production meeting in a few weeks time.
The festival site will once again be open to the public from Thursday 21st May for all weekend ticket holders. We have an extended entertainment license now so music can be played in the marquee stage through the day Thursday while the final preparations are being made elsewhere. A bar will be in the marquee as well as seating for the day.
Thursday evening we get underway with some great rock tunes provided by the DJs from Hard Rock Hell Radio and they take song requests too. We have the music quiz from around 8pm which was so popular last year, we could barely fit everyone in the venue so this will now be hosted in the marquee as well which has been extended in size too.
The party will then continue in the main venue until around 1am for those who want to have a late one!
Friday is the first of the 3 live band days. There will be something added to the daytime which we will be announcing fully in around 4 weeks time but for the schedule, we open the evening with awesome Birmingham band Secrets of Mariana. Following on from them will be a number of bands on the main stage.
As explained earlier, we now have extended license so the party will go on after the bands have finished for those who still need to rock!
Saturday starts at our traditional 11am with the acoustic stage opening the day. We have 3 stages of music with the new acoustic stage being separated this year. Stage 2, The Roulette Media Stage will have a complete makeover from last year. New sound system, lighting, stage and crowd barriers. The marquee will also be blacked out walls and ceiling to give it a night time feel so you can watch the bands on stage and get the full effects of the great light show too.
Watch out for the axeman too! This year we have a Viking theme fancy dress on the Saturday and we will be in the company of Sheffield based BattleAxe Urban Axe Throwing. This could be fun! The guys will have real axes and teach you how to throw them at the targets. Its all health and safety approved and the guys will be there to guide you if you do fancy a throw! The fancy dress will be judged and winners announced early Saturday evening too followed by the annual group photo.
Regular BBFest member Lyndon Webb will be taking to the stage this year with his Psychic Illusions.
Sunday starts again like Saturday with 11am acoustic and another full day of bands with no clashes so you will not miss a single band if you can handle the pace!
If all that wasn’t enough TJ is back again with his drum school and everyone is free to sign up on the day for chat and practical. We will also have a showcase on the Sunday before the headline band hit the stage. The amazing people at RACPA UK hit the stage Sunday evening for a chat about their charity after the Sunday group photo for those who forgot Saturday’s one or want to get in again!
We also have some new things this year. The book corner will be hosted next to one of our new traders ‘The Mashed Tea Tent’ who have a great tea shop but also offer hot chocolate and other goodies as well as stocking essentials you may have forgot such as lighters, torches, toothpaste etc. They also have a book exchange or you can purchase books from them and chill in their tea tent. The book corner will have a couple of guest readers too for everyone to join in with if you wanted to get away from the music for a while. More on that soon!
We met with a guy called Bob who will be trading with us for the first time this year as well. He hosts is business ‘Magic and Joy’ and will have pagan items, dream catchers, tarot cards, healing stones, crystals and a lot more for sale. Something different and we are excited to have Bob with us.
We are delighted to announce that Renegades Clothing, Mojo Rox, and Motley Lou are all back with us this year. Also, everyones favourite foodies are here again as we welcome ever present JW Catering who will be helping to fill your bellies with burgers, chips, hotdogs, bacon butties and their fabulous Sunday roast rap which has become another tradition of BBFest! We also have a new food trander this year as we welcome Artisan Pizza with their stone baked pizza oven. Menu’s will be abailable shortly but they will be offering meat and meat free options to include veggie and vegan options too. A great addition indeed.
As with last year we will have a box at the gate at the end of the weekend for any unwanted food (sealed) that we will take to the local foodbanks as donations so if you have anything left over and don’t want to carry it home, you can drop that with us.
Our skips will be better placed this year and we will have our recycling zones in action too. We want to have as little waste as possible so we hope everyone will help with this. More toilets this year as requested will be supplied outside.
Merchandise for pre-order will be going on sale shortly via the website for collection at the event. As always, there will be discounts on pre-ordering and as in previous years, we do not like to over order by a lot so there may not be many items for sale at the event if you didn’t order in advance. This year includes the traditional festival line-up tee shirt and hoodie along with metal pint glasses, tote bags, pens, keyrings, bottle openers, silicone wristbands and a few others treats besides.
Finally, the ticket sales have been incredible. We were only a couple of tickets away from being sold out but we did not announce this as we were waiting for all the performing bands to confirm their guestlists. Now this has been completed we are able to announce we have 60 tickets left for this years event. When these are gone, thats the lot.
On the subject of tickets, we will have a ticketless entry system this year. All tickets sent via email will include a QR code. You can print this, take a photo of it, save it to your QR wallet or just show it on the email when you arrive and we will be able to check you in. For those who purchased tickets before 1st November 2019, you will be resent your receipt with the new QR code attached. Don’t worry, we will send reminders about this nearer the time as well.
